Candidacy is an extended period (1 to 3 years) in which to grow in knowledge,
understanding and experience of the Benedictine way of life. By more formal
study, by regular sharing of the inner journey, and by participating in
liturgy and common work with the cenobitic monastic community and the Oblate
community as appropriate the candidate develops a sense of belonging with
the cenobitic and oblate communities.
Community
Continue visits to the monastery. Maintain regular contact with Sister
or Oblate sponsor to discern whether Benedictine spirituality is an authentic
choice for you. Bond with Oblate community. Participate in appropriate
Oblate activities.
Message
Gain a sense of the history and charism of St. Gertrude's Monastery.
Study the Rule of Benedict and Benedictine spirituality as it applies
to the life of the candidate.
Worship
Actively participate in the Christian community of your
denomination.
Continuing the habit of regular personal prayer, including the use of the
Scriptures in that prayer. Develop/deepen the practice of Lectio Divina.
Continue to pray with the Sisters and/or Oblates when possible. Reflect
with your sponsor on the candidates prayer journey.
Service
Continuing to discern what ministry flows from the
candidates prayer life. Growing
in a balance/rhythm of work and prayer. Participating in the works of the
cenobitic monastic community as appropriate. Continue serving in the local
community.
