Women who have
been in communication with our community and have expressed an interest
in discerning more seriously their call to the monastic life as lived by
the sisters at the Monastery of St. Gertrude.
This stage can last from 6 months to three
years. Each affiliate has a sister sponsor. Together they
study Seeking God by Esther DeWaal.
During this stage of discernment the inquirer visits the monastery regularly.
She and her sister sponsor stay in contact
with one another for encouragement, support and study.
The ceremony for becoming an Affiliate takes place
in the Renewal Center of the Monastery. The community gathers in the
evening for a simple prayer service. The Affiliate receives a copy
of the book Seeking God and a blessing from the Prioress and
the community of St. Gertrude.
There are Affiliate Weekends scheduled throughout
the year giving the Affiliates an opportunity to visit the monastery
regularly and to continue their discernment process
