Volunteers as Partners in Ministry

The sisters at the Monastery of St. Gertrude welcome our volunteers as Partners in Ministry.  Applications are accepted for women or men in good health and between the ages of 21 and 70.  Prayer, work, silence and solitude provide a place to discern and to experience an alternative lifestyle balancing activity and contemplation.

All volunteers are required to furnish references and accept the Volunteer Policy of the Monastery.  A wish to participate in a prayerful setting is possible by joining the sisters in the daily communal prayers and having some time for private prayer, journaling, walking or other leisure activities.

Work opportunities include helping with clerical duties, answering telephone, housekeeping and outdoor chores such as assisting in the gardens or grounds of the Monastery.

The Monastery is situated in a rural area of plains, prairie and forest.  A small lake is approximately thirty minutes from our place.  Our own Museum is on our grounds and there are several other small museums within a one hour drive.  Medical facilities are located in the town of Cottonwood (three miles from the Monastery).

Volunteers are responsible for their own insurance, medical costs, personal needs and transportation.  Board and Room is furnished by the Monastery.
