Praying With Julian of Norwich

Day Seven - Conclusion

During this retreat you have spent some time with a very extraordinary woman. Julian of Norwich was a woman who accomplished things that were almost unheard of for a woman to do in the culture of her time.

But more than anything Julian was a woman whose love of God and her ability to express the experience of that love was unsurpassed. And this is how she continues to speak to us today. She tells us that God is real, God is present and God desires our presence and our relationship. Julian tells us that God loves us to a depth and height we cannot even imagine and each one of us is called to explore and to know the depth and the height of that love. The message of Julian of Norwich is that knowing God in a deep, personal way isn’t something for the select few, we are all called to know God on this level. This is the legacy that Julian of Norwich has left us, what she wanted to share with us and what she expressed so beautifully in her writings.

Final exercise:

Spend some time reflecting on what you have learned in this retreat. How will you take these insights with you in the days ahead? Try to come up with some concrete ways that you will continue to grow from the insights of Julian. It will be helpful to tell someone about your commitment so that you can know you will have help in continuing to grow in your faith journey.
