Praying With Julian of Norwich

Suggested Reading

Julian’s work: Showings of Divine Love is available in a variety of modern editions.  It is well worth spending some time with this book, using it for daily lectio.

Other books that you might enjoy are:

* A Lesson of Love: The Revelations of Julian of Norwich, by Father John--Julian, OJN

*Julian of Norwich: Showings by Edmund Colledge, James Walsh.  The complete book of Julian’s writings.  A new critical edition put out by Paulist Press Classics of Christian Spirituality series.

*Revelation of Love by John Skinner.  Another contemporary translation.

*Enduring Grace: Living Portraits of Seven Women Mystics by Carol Lee Flinders.  Flinders' book is an excellent introduction to the world and teaching of women mystics, including Julian.  If you are new to the world of the mystics, this is a good place to start.

*Meditations With Julian of Norwich by Brendan Doyle.  This book gives brief quotations from Julian’s writings.  It is a very accessible introduction to Julian’s work, especially if the whole book of Julian’s writings seems intimidating.

*Praying with Julian of Norwich by Gloria Durka.  This book also enables you to make your own retreat with Julian.  It includes helpful exercises and and a structure to enter into the world of Julian.

Julian sites:

*http://www.umilta.net An extensive site that includes copies of Julian's writings and numerous links to articles and information related to Julian.

*http://www.luminarium.org/medlit/julian.htm  Another site with extensive links to Julian's works and scholarly articles about Julian.

*http://www.orderofjulian.org A contemplative order of the Episcopal Church following the teachings of Julian of Norwich.
