“Healing the Land”

A virtual community for people interested in ecology, spirituality and justice.

Calender Community Connections Issues

On June 3-6, 2004 The Monastery of St. Gertrude hosted “Healing the Land: A Contemplative Conference for Women and Men Religious.”  At this conference participants explored the connections between their faith as Roman Catholic religious and the call to a honor the gift of creation.

One of the highlights of the conference was the chance to share informally about what they or their religious communities were doing about land issues.  After the conference many participants voiced a desire to continue to connect with one another and with others who shared their concerns and interests.

In order to facilitate this sharing the Monastery of St. Gertrude has created this web page to allow people to continue to connect, share and create a community of people who share a desire to “heal the land” from a stance of faith.

Although the conference was intended to focus on Roman Catholic Religious in the Northwest we see this web-page as reaching a larger audience.  We hope that Religious and all people of faith will use this as an opportunity to create a virtual community of people of faith interested in how our faith calls us to a deeper relationship with the earth.

In this web page we will offer:

  •  CALENDAR:  What is happening in your area?  You can send items to post up-coming events on our calendar.  Make announcements about news and events.  Find out where speakers will be presenting in your area.  A “What’s New” section will provide a space for announcements and timely news.
  • COMMUNITY:  Just as the earth is an interwoven set of communities we hope to facilitate connections among people of faith concerned about the earth.  This is a place to try and connect with other people from similar places, interests, communities, etc.  Share what you are doing in your community or work.  Share pictures of your projects and events.
  •  CONNECTIONS:  This will be a resource area for creating the connections that sustain us in this work. Develop resources for people just learning about the earth as well as well as publicizing helpful new books, organizations or activities.  Connect with organizations doing similar work.
  •  SPECIFIC ISSUES:  Are you interested in specific issues, e.g. water, food, Earth Charter, energy issues, anything else?  This page can be a forum to share and connect with others with similar interests.  Just let us know what you would like to share.
  • DISCUSSION:  If people want to have a forum for discussion of these issues, we will host an e-mail list on Yahoo!  This will be a chance to post comments and create discussions around the topics listed on the web page.  To join this list simply go to: ________________

YOU CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN!  The success of this web page will depend on your participation!  If this sounds interesting send us resources, announcements, sharings, pictures, questions, etc.  We plan to update this site approximately once a week.  Submit anything to: Sr. Teresa Jackson at outreachretreats@hotmail.com
