Sister
Cecile Marie Uhlorn has returned to the monastery after having been missioned to our founding monastery St.
Andreas in Sarnen, Switzerland. St. Andreas is the cloistered
monastery form which our monastery began in 1882. Sisters Johanna Zumstein, Rosalie Rublie and Magdalene Suter were sent from St. Andreas
to establish a new community in North America. Thus our monastery
claims St. Andreas as our founding Monastery. Many of our early
members came from Switzerland. Our last Swiss sister was sister
Radegunda Bishofberger
who died in October 21, 2003 at age 101.
Sister Cecile Marie was asked to stay a St. Andreas in Switzerland
following a sabbatical visit there in 1999. She was asked to help the
cloister by serving as an organist. She received the blessing of
our Prioress and was there during the school year months until 2005. Her presence there besides serving as an organist for
St. Andreas, has served to strengthen and renew our relationship with
our founding Motherhouse. As of Spring 2005
Sister Cecile has returned to St. Gertrude's. She continues to
foster close relationships with the Sarnen community. |
