| Like other
Benedictine communities, St. Gertrude's is an independent, self-supporting
monastery.
Contrary to popular
belief, the monastery is not subsidized by the Catholic
Church or diocese.
The sisters maintain themselves, their
ministries and their historic monastery and grounds through salaries and
wages earned by the sisters,
investment income and the generous contributions
of donors.
Increased costs coupled with decreased
number of sisters earning income challenge the community to develop
alternate sources of revenue.
Planned giving and the endowment fund can
be key components of such revenue.
