by your holy cross You

teach me what it meant for you to fall the first time:
To
feel the hardness of the ground and the crushing of the wood.
To
realize your own weakness.
To
wonder if you could get up.
To
realize you had to get up or die, and to know you weren’t ready to die.
To
hear jeers and cries of scorn at your weakness.
