Monastery of St. Gertrude-Virtual Tour

Cornerstone of the monastery

Construction of the historic monastery began in 1919 and was completed in 1924. The cornerstone, visible at the base of the left-hand tower, was laid in 1920.

The stone part of the monastery is constructed of blue porphyry quarried from the hill behind the monastery.  Each stone was individually chiseled and placed by hand.  The windows are faced with locally produced brick.

Many of the items you see outside and inside the chapel were donated by friends and family of members of our community. We acknowledge their gracious generosity and offer daily prayers for their intentions.
