We are
a religious community of 62 Sisters, with 10 women in initial formation, who follow the Rule of Benedict at
the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho, and the other places
where we live and serve.
With the early Christian communities as our model, we strive to live
out the values of praying
together, living together, sharing all things in common, and serving
the wider community. We commit ourselves to being signs of hospitality,
simplicity and peace. Through a balance of prayer, work and leisure we
commit ourselves to bringing hope to the world by doing what Jesus did.
This commitment is expressed through our present
ministries of prayer, healthcare, parish ministry, retreats,
hospitality, care
of the land, education, social services, counseling, development,
administration and preservation
of tradition.
You may have met or may meet us in hospitals, schools, on diocesan boards,
at our monastery or museum, or through our Oblates.
We may have been your teacher, nurse, counselor, spiritual director, parish
minister. We have served or serve with many of you in the diocesan Ministerial
Development Program, the Deaconate Program, on the Liturgical Commission
and the Diocesan Pastoral Council. We may have cared for your aging parents,
taught your children, prayed for you, suffered with you and celebrated
with you.
We invite single Roman Catholic women who hunger for
justice
and peace, and who are willing to seek Christ above all in hope and
love, to join us in our endeavors. Becoming
a Benedictine Sister involves giving oneself to a life of dynamic faith,
to committed relationships with those in the community and with the church,
and to continued growth.
We are grateful for all that has been given to us in the
125 years we
have been in the Northwest, including our last 100 years in Cottonwood.
We continue to rely on the generosity of our benefactors to help strengthen our ministries and meet our basic living and healthcare
needs.
