Support Our
Mission
The Monastery of St. Gertrude Development Office works to raise funds
for the support of the
mission,
membership and
ministries
of the monastery.
“Development, ultimately, is the means of
enabling
donors to realize the fulfillment of their
philanthropic dreams of
helping create a society that
reflects their most deeply held values.”
~
Karla A. Williams, Donor Focused Strategies for Annual
Giving
Development. Mission
Advancement. Stewardship Office. No matter what you call it, our
Development Office follows Jesus' mission statement:
"I have come that they may have life
and have it in abundance."
~ John 10:10
The Benedictine Sisters of the
Monastery of St. Gertrude are about gratitude for God’s
abundant gifts and sharing them in ways that create life in abundance -
in our hearts and minds, in our ministries, in our work and play, in the
lives of our friends, visitors and benefactors, in the lives of those we
touch through our presence and our prayers including those who live in
severe scarcity.

Turning the Page
to 2010
Many blessings for this New Year! You, your friendship
and your support are an inspiration and blessing to us.
Thank you.
As we turn the page to 2010 we eagerly continue to
implement our 2020 Vision that renews and deepens our
commitment to prayer, justice and compassion for the
sake of God’s kingdom. Of our six goals for 2008-2020,
the two that leap out for Development ministry are #4:
“The public portrayal of our monastic community’s image
aligns with and illustrates our values and mission,” and
#6: “The monastic community is financially viable.” We
state the goals in present tense so they serve as a
checklist for reviewing our communal commitments.
Turning the page to 2010
includes welcoming Joy Kopp from Boise as our new
Marketing/Communications Manager, and Carolyn Radakovich
from Lewiston as our new Development Manager
(fundraiser). Jacqueline Bradish, present Mar/Com
Manager, will continue as Graphic Designer/Web
Developer. Michele Byers will continue as Office Manager
and Sister Angela Uhlorn as Coordinator of SGA Alumni
Relations. As Sister Kim Marie Jordan, Assistant
Director, moves out of our office we thank her for her
unifying presence and effective work the last three
years. As Director I remain privileged to stay in touch
with so many of you and introduce you to our new staff
members.
We appreciate the 25 of you who have let us know that
you have included us in your will. We invite others to
seriously consider this kind of gift. For information: 208-962-5062 or

Our Capital
Campaign
We
successfully completed our Growing a Future Rooted in
Hope Capital Campaign in September 2009.

The
campaign raised money for building
Spirit Center – a $3.4 million 21,800
square foot conference and retreat facility;
a $2 million renovation of the historic monastery
building; and $1.5 million in endowments for our
Spirituality Ministry and the
Historical Museum at St. Gertrude.
Our 61
member community financed $1.9 million of the $6.9 million dollar
project and raised $5 million through the capital campaign.
We have initiated or deepened friendships with over 900 benefactors
through the Growing a Future Rooted in Hope $5 million Capital
Campaign which we completed successfully in September 2009. These
benefactors and 400 other friends sustained our annual fund throughout
the capital campaign.

Our Strategic Plan
Over the last three years we have
created a living strategic plan which we are systematically implementing
in order to move steadily toward our vision statement:
Prayer awakens. Justice impels.
Compassion acts. Thy Kingdom Come.
45 friends beyond the community
participated in formulating the plan and many of them remain engaged on
the implementation teams.
1909-2009 Centennial
From August 2008 through August 2009 we celebrated “100 Years ‘at Home’
in Idaho”. The grand finale of this centennial, was a celebration of
“Turning the Page to a New Century”.
All of these events urge us to stay
in touch with our many friends and supporters, and to live our
Benedictine life with eagerness for prayer and for responding to the
needs of our time with healing hospitality, grateful simplicity and
creative peacemaking.
We invite you to investigate
the many ways our mission carries out the values you hold so dear. I
invite you to claim and proclaim God’s abundance in the whole creation,
especially in your own life.
