Who We Are
Our Monastic
Community
Welcome to the Monastery of St. Gertrude! We are glad
you are here.

Monastery of St. Gertrude Community in
the Chapel, April 2009.
We are monastic women who follow the ancient Rule of
Benedict. Using early Christian communities as our
model, we live out the values of praying together, living together,
sharing all things in common, and serving the wider community. We are a
religious community of 56
Professed Sisters (13
Sisters are serving away from the Monastery) and 1 novice.
We strive to live a balanced
life of prayer,
work and leisure and are committed to fostering
Healing
Hospitality, Grateful Simplicity and Creative Peacemaking in the world. We work to express this
commitment in all that we do.
You have likely met us in
hospitals, schools, on diocesan boards, at our Monastery or
Museum, or
through our
oblates,
volunteers or
employees. We might have been your teacher, nurse, counselor,
spiritual director or parish minister. We may have cared for your aging
parents, taught your children, prayed for you, suffered with you and
celebrated with you.
