Herbal Wisdom for Today, May 31 – June 3, 2018, Thursday 7:30 pm to Sunday 1:30 pm
Mother Earth is continually sharing her bounty. Join us in exploring and enjoying her healing gifts and creating remedies from them. Participants will experience a variety of hands-on opportunities. Presented by Carlotta Maria Fontes, OSB — Master Herbalist and creator of Nature’s Gifts.
Sister Carlotta grows and harvests medicinal herbs that are used in the Nature’s Gifts Healing Salve. She inherited her interest in the medicinal salve from sisters who came before her. “I never would have thought the earth and all its creation would have touched me so much. Since being here at the Monastery, I have come to appreciate the earth and all its gifts. When I walk the hill I feel such a sense of closeness to all that’s around me, and when I see a new plant I can’t wait to find out what it is and if it has any medicinal properties.”
The history of the Monastery of St. Gertrude is closely connected with the land. The community sees themselves as a group of women intimately related to nature and they have made a commitment to its care. Their Philosophy of Land Use reads, “With humility we recognize the earth as the source from which we receive our life and sustenance…the land has nourished and healed our bodies.”
